Best reel on the market

With outstanding drag and incredible smoothness, the Fin Nor Santiago series is on par with the Tiagra series and far better than Penn. Best reel on the market for your buck.

THis reel has better fit and finish then a Penn International. It is built like a tank. So what if it is heavy. It stays on the bent butt for trolling.
ProsHuge drag power. Superior fit and finish.
ConsHeavy. Old school heavy.

Awesome reel using for high speed Wahoo fishing and works great! Smaller size with enough drag to handle the pressure!
ProsGreat drag, Great price, & hold tremendous amount of Braid, like the handle.
ConsA little heavier than competitive models

Two for one price can√Ę‚‚¨‚"Ęt be beat. Built solid. A bit on the heavy side. Two speeds is a nice luxury to have.

Very nice and seemingly well made reel. Heavy is about the only complaint that I have. I have not used the reel since it is winter here.

Picked up a pair of these reels when i took advantage of the buy one get one deal. Heavy, but well built and sturdy, with upkeep, they should last me my life and my kids. very easy on the eyes, great handle, the amount of line on the spool is disputed however.
Prosperformance, functionality, efficiency.

I'm so happy that Tackle Direct offered these reels up for such a great price. I now have 4 of them all set up with different line and ready to go. Highly recommended. They weigh a bit more but the quality is well worth it.
ProsWell made

Quality big game reel!

I ordered 2 30W. These reels are smooth and seem to be very high quality. These are large for 30's. They are much larger than my Penn 30vsw. They have more drag and line capacity. I think they will function more like a 50.

I bought 2 penn ally rods for these reels for land based hsark fishing. Perfect set up. Holds enough line. Have not been able to use them as much as I would like too. But hopefully I can get out more and reel in some bad boys. A lot of drag on this reel.
ProsHigh Drag Line capacity
ConsA little heavy. (weighs as much as the penn international 50VW)

Fin Nor Santiago 80w Problems
March 3, 2015
i bought 4 of the santiago 80w reels last summer and after only a few trips one of the reels had handle issues where it would bind up and not rotate. soon after the other ones all developed the same problem rendering the reels useless. i had to send all the handles back to fin nor who fought with me over he charge for the new handles. ( they wanted $140 each) needless to say, as soon as i got the new handles on, which was a real pain to do. its not as easy as just unbolting the handle arm. i sold them all. too bad as they were nice feeling reels, but 4 out of 4 suffered same handle break problem.
Prosnice smooth reels
Conshandles on every one santiago 80w i have owned (6 total) has broken in short order. 2 i fixed with new handles only to have it happen again within a few trips out.

Had these reels spooled up with 50 lb mono and took them off store. They performed flawlessly with kingfish and multiple bonita caught in just 2 and a half hours. So far so good. Would highly recommend.
