Perfect northeast rod for a variety of fishing applications. I use it to throw heavy plugs for stripers and blues, deep jig sea bass and tog and chunk live bait. I have mine paired with a Calcutta D and nothing phases it. Super light, long butt section for tucking under your arm and strong as a telephone pole with a light enough tip for good action.
ProsStrong Lightweight Versatile Sensitive
ConsA little expensive

Absolute Garbage!

I bought 2 G Loomis PBR785C rods. The first one one snapped in half the third time I used it. The second one snapped the first time I used it. Both broke at the exact same spot. I don't know what G Loomis changed, but I will never buy this trash again!
ConsUnreliable and brittle.

Light and strong
June 22, 2019
I really like this rod, I got the 902s on sale for half off and really wasn’t sure how it would be, but I’m really glad I got it! It’s light, has a good feel to grip and use, and has more power than it initially feels like it has. I was a little worried it was too light for snook around piers & docks but it has proven to be a great Rodger them. If I needed another rod I would get it full price.
ProsLight, Power, feel

extremely light feeling rod, sensitive, yet to really test the backbone
Consit's a little creekie , makes an above average amount of "new rod" noises throughout the blank. This just might be the way its made. Doesn't seem to have any defects or affect the performance of the rod/blank.

Love the rod. The fit and finish is awesome! The real test will be in two weeks taking it out to the oil rigs. Gloomis has to be some of the best for the money!
ConsWish it would come with a rod sleeve!
GLoomis PBR844S Pro-Blue Saltwater Series Rod

October 22, 2017
This was a good match to my Avet SX 6/4 MC. The rod is light weight with good balance. It is rated as a fast action rod yet it has decent parabolic bend that absorbs shocks of an initial hard strike and quick runs. This rod will work well for both inshore ling cod, white sea bass, striper, and halibut fishing and as an offshore jig stick for tossing live bait and jigs to schooling albacore and similar sized tunas.

Gloomis pro-blue saltwater rod
September 24, 2015
Have 2 of these now and used recently during inshore Florida fishing trip. Good performance, strong backbone to get Red or Snooks out of structure and a good price break. These now have a place along with my NRX series rods.
ProsPerformance and value in one package. NRX is still my favorite but find I now also use the pro-blue series.

I bought this rod specifically for a bull red kayak fishing tournament. I paired it with a shimano stradic fj 4000. I was a little unsure of the combo as it was untested prior to the tournament. However, as the 30 pound braid began to scream off the reel I found out that I made a great choice. This rod and reel combo performed perfectly. The rod is sensitive yet very strong. Towards the end of the fight the fish dove under another kayakers boat and his anchor was wrapped around my line. In an effort to not lose the fish I kept line tight and pulled up a boat anchor and a 28.9 pound bull red at the same time. This rod is awesome. I'm going to buy another one before next years tournament. I would recommend for targeting big inshore fish and would be more than able to bring in cobia, Mahi, and small tuna.

Powerful Rod
August 21, 2015
I love this rod! It is my favorite amongst my fishing arsenal. It is super light weight but with plenty of power. I match this rod up with a 10K Sustain or 10K Gosa and its a deadly combo for just about anything in the water. I wrapped mine up with rod wrap to protect the very nice cork material that GLoomis uses.
ProsLight weight, plenty of power.

Light and Fast. This rod I have teamed with an Avet SXJ 6/4 MC Raptor reel. Seven footer works great on the boat. And with the fast action works great casting from the shore.

Great buy
November 16, 2014
Have only took this rod out about 4 time so far but I can already tell its going to be one of my favorites. I have it set up with a talica 8 II with 40lb white power pro and 75 yards of 20lb clear izor. I had some luck catching some California yellow tails off Catalina and the rod had plenty of power and felt real smooth.
ProsGreat power, looks great and fishes better.

It's A loomis.
September 20, 2014
If you are all ready using loomis rods this rod is exactly what you expect from the brand.seems to be much tougher than my GL2's and GL3's and still very light. I am using mine with a Penn Spinfisher V 5500. It's a good pairing but I would not go any heaver on the reel. If you don't have any Gloomis rod's and you are a serous fishing junky watch out once you have one yule want more and when they brake (and they do brake) yule just by another one!
