I've had this reel for about 3 years now paired with a gloomis e6x inshore. This thing is a workhorse. I have the 3000 series and I've caught redfish upwards of 10 pounds no problems at all
ProsVery smooth and cast well nice drag system. Also really lightweight compared to competitors

i have the 3000 and 4000 CI4 reels. Great reels and light weight. I have caught 40 inch plus redfish on my paddleboard with these reels. Fishing on a paddleboard all day is quite a workout and having a good light setup is key.
Prosgood drag and light weight

Great Reels, Lightweight and durable
November 20, 2019
I have 5 Stradic Ci4's, 1 gen 1, 2 gen 2's and 2 gen 3's. I am tough on my gear and they get a lot of use and have never let me down. Super light and durable. I've caught 15 pound bluefish and 20 pound stripers on the 3000's and use use them for albies as well. I will say that I wish they kept the foam grip handle on the gen 3's. That's the only reason I'm not giving this reel a 5 star ratings.

The CI4 version is so light but still packs a punch as its sibling the stradic FK, I use these for freshwater applications because I baby this reel so much I don't want to put it on saltwater

Not so great
January 19, 2019
Although very smooth, lightweight and powerful I’ve had several issues with this reel the one year I’ve owned it... I use is pretty much exclusively in salt water for jigging blackfish. Anti reverse fails under load fairly frequently, chrome bail spring covers are corroding, reel handle stem is rusting out at the knuckle. I spray this reel each time after use with freshwater. This is something you might expect if you were using a freshwater reel in the salt or if it were one of Shimanos less expensive reel lines but @ $239 I expect more... I’m also not the only one with the anti reverse issue either... I know 3 people who had to have their reels repaired for the same reason... Shipped it back to Shimano and hope they can fix or make good on it..
ProsLightweight year vert powerful
ConsAnti reverse fails under load and does not seem to hold up too well in saltwater

Perfect Blackfish Spinning Setup
November 6, 2018
This has been my go to blackfish reel for 4 seasons now (2500 series) - had to replace the drag washers once from all the abuse its taken but the reel is a tank. I've successfully stopped 4 double digit tog with this reel, paired with a 6'6 St Croix Premier MHF spinning rod - you cant go wrong.

Stradic HGFB
October 12, 2018
I have many of the Stradic HGFB in my arsenal in sizes from 2500 to 4000. Quality of this reel and durability are unmatched. Heck I still have the Stradi'cs with wood handles that I still use.

July 19, 2018
I've owned many reels, fishing for saltwater, freshwater, sharks, and now back to freshwater again. I own this 4000 and also a Ci4+ 3000 as well as a Daiwa Certate 2004, and 2510. The Daiwa's are nicer and smoother (as they should be for more ball bearings) - but they cost twice as much. This Stradic is a great reel, very light, strong and smooth drag and I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, mid priced reel. I am currently using this as my 2nd pike setup from the boat - and it will be my Salmon reel this fall on my 10' St Croix Avid Surf. I will be getting the 1000 sized for my trout setup this spring as well. I add power knobs to my Stradic reels.

Best in class
March 20, 2018
As a full time saltwater guide I spend over 250 days a year using reels. The Shimano line has continued to impress me and for inshore use the Stradic Ci4 is the perfect blend of weight, strength and performance. The Hagane gears are cold forged which means they are stronger, smoother and last longer. Overall I have found the Stradic and Srtadic Ci4 hold up better and longer than any other reel in thier category, definitely worth the investment!
ProsThis reel is lightweight and the finish is strong and long lasting so the reels look good and work well after countless hours of use. The gears are smooth and allow for flawless operation and the bail system works extremely well preventing accidental bail closure.

Best reel I own
December 15, 2017
Rearming with my inshore tackle this year and bought a penn, stradic and a sustain and a quantum cabo to own them side by side and see how they do and hold up. The stradic is the smoothest of all and by far the lightest. Will let you know how it lasts but it seems the best of the bunch so far.

Drag washer
October 11, 2017
I bought a stradic 2500 ci4+ a week ago, i used it 3 times then the drag washer melted, which made me order new drag washers from carbontex, I expected a $230 shimano reel could have at least a better drag washer.

Stradic's do it again!!!
September 15, 2017
I have many Shimano Stradic reels. Why, because they never fail me. This new C-14 is no exception. The main reasons have to do with castability. They cast like a dream and lay line like a smooth sheet w/o digging in and a great retrieve ratio. My friends think I'm crazy to use them in saltwater but I recently wrestled a nice snook from the mangroves as well as caught bluefish and spanish mackerel from the surf in Florida with these reels. I have several sizes, and each is soooo balanced by the incredible lightness per size ratio, making it effortless to cast endlessly w/o fatigue or reel/rod balance issues. Love these guys, and just gifted one to a friend!!!
ConsUnsealed bearings.

Almost perfect
July 19, 2017
It's a wonder how something so slight can perform so well. I admit that it looks a little cheap at first glance. It has that look of a $15 reel you see in the cheap section of the tackle shop, but those fears are quickly dismissed once it is in hand. The only problem I've encountered is a slight crunching noise when reeling under load. It doesn't seem to affect performance at all, but my Sustains are practically silent under the same conditions.
ProsSuper light but sturdy.
ConsLittle noisy.

Fantastic reel, smooth drag and casts a mile. I use it for finesse fishing in Texas.
ProsIt's a piece of art, well balanced and pretty to look at.
ConsAt over $200 dollars for the reel it's hard to pull the trigger, but I'm glad I did.
